Bench jobWorking on the movement

Movement screws demand a blade ground flat across its face and matched closely to the slot. We set these screwdrivers into a weighted rotating stand, paired with reserve blades under the carousel. The handles carry an elastomer coating over stainless steel bodies.

Handles and coating

Stainless steel bodies carry an elastomer sleeve down the barrel. The grip stays positive under light finger pressure, and the free-turning swivel head lets the top finger remain still while the barrel turns between thumb and forefinger.

Sized blade widths

The set supplies widths of 0.80mm, 1.00mm, 1.20mm, 1.40mm, 1.60mm, and 2.00mm. Each blade sits in a split chuck tightened by a knurled collar, keeping the tip aligned with the central axis of the handle.

The rotating stand

We turn the stand from solid POM-C plastic. It rotates on its base to bring the required size to hand, while central compartments hold the spare replacement blades upright and separated until needed at the bench.

Changing a worn tip

Loosen the threaded collar to release the blade when its edge rounds or chips. Slip in the replacement blade from the base compartment and lock the collar back down. You dress the flats on an oilstone afterwards.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
