Snap-on casebacks require direct purchase right at the seam. We grind the blade on 4932 short and stiff so the edge seats into the case notch without twisting under your thumb. The shaped handle fills the palm while your fingers guide the bevel into place.
Fixed ground blade
The blade is set permanently into the handle without hinge play or flex. Its bevel narrows to a wedge profile that meets the rim of a pressed caseback.
Shaped handle body
The broad handle gives the palm something solid to bear against during a lift. It stays firm under hand pressure when finding purchase in a tight case lip.
Thumb rest placement
Your thumb sits flat along the upper flat of the stock behind the blade. This keeps the vector of force in line with the case notch rather than skewed.
Edge dressing
Keep the working edge dressed on a fine bench stone if the face burrs. A clean, straight bevel finds the seam faster than a rounded lip.
