Bench jobWorking on the movement

A worn screwdriver blade burrs screw slots and lifts steel chips into a clean movement. We turn these straight flat replacement blades to restore the orange 0.5 mm driver without changing the body you are used to holding. The blade seats into the driver barrel and locks with the set screw.

Orange band fit

The 0.5 mm tip matches the orange identification ring on the handles of our 30080 and 30081 driver families. It slides into the nose of the driver body and seats squarely against the internal stop.

Straight flat profile

We grind the flats parallel so the working face fills the slot of a movement screw from edge to edge. A flat ground to this profile sits deep in the slot rather than riding up the screw head under turning pressure.

Replacing the blade

Loosen the small set screw on the driver barrel with an auxiliary driver and draw the spent steel out. Insert the new 0.5 mm piece, align the flat with the set screw, and tighten it down firmly before returning to the bench.

Dressing on the stone

Even a fresh 0.5 mm tip needs maintenance after heavy bench sessions. Mount the driver in a sharpening tool and run the flats across an India or Arkansas stone with light oil to keep the edges crisp and parallel.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
