Bench jobWorking on the movement

We grind this 1.6 mm replacement blade for our purple-banded movement screwdrivers. It seats directly into the shank of catalogue 30080 or 30081 handles once the side set screw is backed out. A fresh tip restores the flat contact across the screw slot when an old edge shows wear.

Straight flat tip

We grind the working end parallel so the flat faces meet both walls of a 1.6 mm movement screw slot evenly. That square contact holds the slot walls without climbing under turning pressure.

Fitting the shank

Release the small set screw on the side of your screwdriver barrel to slide the old steel out. This replacement slips straight into the bore, where the screw locks against the flat of the shaft.

Purple color coding

This 1.6 mm size corresponds to the purple identification ring on our screwdriver handles and rotating bench carousels. Keeping the blade width matched to the handle band avoids hunting across the bench during assembly.

Dressing the edge

A screwdriver blade wears after steady work on bridge and plate screws. You can redress the parallel flats on an India stone, or discard the worn steel and clamp this fresh piece into the barrel.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width
