Bench jobWorking on the movement

A worn screwdriver blade deforms screw slots instead of turning them. We turn and grind these 2 mm flat steel blades to renew the working edge on our green-banded drivers. They slide directly into the collet of catalogue 30080 and 30081 bodies when the old tip chips or rounds over.

The ground profile

We grind the parallel flats down to a clean 2 mm working edge. The tip enters the screw head squarely so the flats bear against the slot walls instead of riding up.

Fitting the driver body

Loosen the set screw on your 30080 or 30081 handle to release the spent tip. Seat this replacement firmly into the nose and tighten the screw back down onto the shank.

Colour band reference

This size matches the green identifier ring on our driver bodies and carousel tubes. Keeping the sizes paired to their assigned colours saves time while you work through a movement.

Dressing the flat

You can dress the working face on an India stone as it wears at the bench. When repeated dressing shortens the shank too far, discard it and secure a fresh blade.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
