Bench jobWorking on the movement

Movement bridge screws and tiny detent springs require a flat blade dressed straight across the face. We grind this 0.5 mm replacement tip to seat fully into the screw slot rather than bottoming out or riding on the edges. When the old tip chips or rounds over, loosen the set screw in the ferrule and slip this one in.

The ground face

We grind the parallel flats down to 0.5 mm so the working edge sits deep against the bottom of the screw slot. It bears against both walls rather than pinching the top edges.

Fitting the ferrule

The shank is sized to slide directly into our matching 6899 driver body. Back out the side screw on the ferrule, seat the fresh tip until it stops, and snug the screw back down against the flat.

Color band matching

The collar carries the size color coding used across our bench racks. You spot the right replacement in the tube before you open it, keeping the driver ready at the movement holder.

Dressing the edge

Even a hard tip dulls on stubborn bridge screws over time. You can dress this steel on an Arkansas stone with a screwdriver sharpening tool to square the face before you replace it entirely.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
