A threaded caseback often needs grip across its entire surface rather than purchase in narrow notches. We mold the 8007 ball from flexible, slightly tacky brown rubber. Pressed down with the palm, it conforms to flat or domed caseback profiles to break the thread or spin the back home.
Tacky rubber surface
The outer skin of the ball provides friction against smooth, polished, or brushed metal. It creates a wide area of contact across the back rather than concentrating torque on thin slots.
Palm fit and compression
The hollow body compresses under downward pressure from your hand. You hold the case in one hand or in a movement holder while bearing down and turning the ball with the other.
Threaded case opening
We use this friction method to start stubborn threaded backs or to spin free a back that has already been loosened. It leaves no metal shavings or marks from slipping steel bits.
Bench maintenance
Dust and oil from the bench will eventually settle on the exterior and reduce grip. Washing the rubber skin with mild soap and warm water restores the natural tackiness of the material.
