We shape the jaws of our 4733 tightener to close squarely over the pipe of a loose cannon pinion. An integrated regulating screw limits the travel of the cutters. This allows the watchmaker to control the depth of the notch without crushing the brass arbor beneath.
Regulated opening system
The knurled stop screw sets the closing depth before the jaws touch the workpiece. You adjust the travel to deliver a consistent pinch around the circumference of the pinion without collapsing the bore.
Dressed cutting edges
We finish the opposed top cutter blades to meet along a true line. The ground edges form an even indentation in the wall of the pipe to restore friction on the center wheel post.
Length and leverage
At 120 mm from jaw tip to handle end, the tool gives steady control under hand pressure. The arms spring open between passes so you can inspect the fit on an arbor without resetting your grip.
Bench tool upkeep
Keep the pivoting joint lightly oiled and clear of metal filings. When storing the 4733 in a bench rack, leave the stop screw backed out so the ground jaws do not rest clamped together under tension.
