Crown Winder Tools for Watchmakers 30409-A

Winding a stiff mainspring by bare fingers tires the pads before the train is checked. We turn the 30409-A with an open collet sized for 3 mm crowns. The barrel slips over the crown fluting and holds it squarely while you turn, letting you feel the click engagement through the barrel.

Internal collet mouth

The bore opens to take a 3 mm crown squarely. Its interior surface grips the perimeter fluting without bottoming out against the case flank or riding across the winding stem tube.

Turned body profile

We cut deep diamond knurling into the outer diameter of the barrel. It gives dry traction to your thumb and forefinger when a mainspring arbor offers heavy resistance during a full wind.

Stem alignment check

Holding the crown through the tool gives a longer lever when setting hands. You feel tight spots in the minute wheel work and can test the sliding pinion engagement across each setting position.

Bench storage

Keep the tool in a slotted wooden block or a partitioned bench tray between assemblies. Keeping the internal bore clear of brass chips and dried grease preserves its seating on clean crown flutings.
