What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobOpening and closing a case

We make the 4755 for lifting snap-on backs from their case rims. The steel blade presents a ground wedge that seats directly into the opening lip. The broad handle fills the palm so you can apply steady upward leverage without rocking the edge sideways across the metal.

Ground steel blade

The working end is shaped from steel with a dressed prying edge. It enters the case lip squarely and stays seated while you lift the back away from the rebate.

Molded handle body

We set the steel tang into a broad plastic handle. The flattened profile keeps the tool from twisting in your grip as you bear down on the lever.

Case back leverage

The geometry is set for direct upward lift on snap backs. It gives your thumb a firm fulcrum point against the case shoulder during the stroke.

Bench care

Wipe the working face clean of metal swarf and oil between jobs. When the leading lip wears down from heavy bench use, dress the bevel lightly on an oilstone.

Opening a stubborn case back

Snap backs against screw backs against monobloc cases, how a case key and its dies engage a fluted rim, why the case is held in a holder rather than in the hand, and what to do when the back has been opened badly before.
