What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

Movement work occasionally calls for a small cross recess rather than a flat slot. We turn the knurled metal handle of 30081-C-120 with a wide swivel cap so downward finger pressure stays steady while you turn the barrel. The 1.2 mm Phillips tip is secured by a set screw at the ferrule.

Cross recess profile

The 1.2 mm Phillips tip engages miniature cross-head screws found in electronic modules, bridge plates, and quartz calibres. The wings are cut clean to seat down to the root of the recess.

Swivel cap action

The broad cap at the top rotates freely on the stem. Your index finger rests centered on the cap to hold the tool straight while your thumb and middle finger spin the knurled section.

Handle and ferrule

We machine the body with raised knurling along the lower half for steady grip under low torque. A set screw in the ferrule clamps the blade shank securely in place along the central bore.

Blade change

When the cross flutes wear down from use, loosen the side screw in the ferrule with a standard watchmaker screwdriver. Slide the old tip out, seat the replacement, and tighten the screw back down.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
