Bench jobWorking on the movement

We assemble this set across ten stepped widths, from the 0.5 mm bridge screw size up to the 3.0 mm case fastener. Each chromium-plated body carries its own color ring, matched to a dedicated tube holding spare replacement blades. A watchmaker keeps the entire range within reach of the movement holder.

Chromium-plated bodies

The knurled barrel gives purchase under light finger pressure while the swivel head turns smooth beneath the index finger. Chromium plating over the metal core sheds bench oil and keeps the body clean through years of work.

Color rings by size

Each width carries a distinct color ring on the ferrule, matching the lid of its spare blade capsule. You pick the 0.5 mm orange or the 3.0 mm brown without reading numbers off the shank.

Sized blade profiles

We grind the flat tips straight so the parallel faces seat deep in movement screw slots. Using the full width from 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm matches the slot length to reduce burring on soft screw heads.

Replacing worn tips

The setscrew in the ferrule releases the blade once an edge chips or rounds over. Slide the fresh tip from the color-matched tube into the bore and tighten the grub screw against the flat.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
