We electropolish the stainless steel tip on this hand oiler to lift a tiny, repeatable bead of lubricant from the well. The 0.18 mm gauge suits small jewel holes and delicate cap jewels. A plain handle with a red identification ring lets you pick out the gauge without checking the tip under a loupe.
Stainless steel tip
The steel tip is electropolished to present a clean surface to the lubricant. It picks up a small bead, or a split drop, without creeping up the wire before you touch the jewel.
Plain handle body
The handle body is turned smooth and sits lightly between thumb and index finger. It gives you direct feedback as you lower the tip toward an endstone or an impulse face.
Red color ring
We mark the handle with a red band so the 0.18 mm size stands out on the rack. You identify the gauge immediately when switching between different viscosities across the train.
Placing the droplet
Touch the point directly to the oil sink or jewel hole. The fluid releases from the electropolished steel onto the stone on contact, leaving the rest of the setting dry.
