What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

We shape this oiler with an extra fine point to lift and place minimal quantities of lubricant. The slender tip carries a droplet straight from the cup to the pivot jewel without spreading. When set aside on the bench, a plastic sleeve pushes over the working end to keep dust off the point.

Extra fine tip

The spade point is formed to take up a small droplet of lubricant from the well and release it the moment it touches the jewel face. The shape helps meter small amounts repeatedly without bridging to nearby bridge metal.

Black handle body

The light plastic stem gives you direct control over the placement of the point under magnification. It balances easily between the fingers so you can approach balance endstones and small train pivots without a heavy grip on the tool.

Protective plastic cap

A push-on plastic cover slips over the metal needle when the tool rests on the bench rack. It shields the tip from dust and stray particles between applications, keeping dried debris away from fresh lubricant.

Care at the bench

Wipe the point across pith wood or elder pith before dipping into the cup. Keeping the working end clean stops old lubricant films from altering the way the next drop gathers and releases on the jewel.

Oilers, cups and how much goes on

Why oilers come in graded sizes, what an oil cup with a lid is for, why the oil is picked up from the cup and not from the bottle, how a jewel takes a drop, and how oilers are cleaned between grades.
