Bench jobWorking on the movement

A worn screwdriver blade burrs screw slots and drags on plate recesses. We turn this replacement from stainless steel to fit the 1.4 mm driver body in our 6899 range. It seats straight into the barrel and clamps tight with the side grub screw.

Blade profile

We grind the parallel flats down to 1.4 mm so the tip seats deep into movement screw heads. The sides stay parallel rather than tapered to grip the full depth of the slot.

Stainless steel stock

The blade is cut from stainless stock. It resists workshop damp and keeps its geometry through repeated light dress-ups on an India stone.

Replacing a worn tip

Loosen the grub screw on the knurled driver barrel and pull the spent blade free. Slide this replacement in until it bottoms out, then pinch the screw down firmly.

Bench organization

The blade matches the color band on our 1.4 mm handle. Keeping spares grouped by width saves hunting through tubes while a train bridge is waiting to be secured.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
