What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

Number 5 in our automatic oiler series deposits a metered drop directly at the jewel without dipping into an open cup. You steady the point against the setting, press the feed button, and the internal needle delivers the charge. It keeps the reserve clean between applications across the movement.

The internal needle

A fine inner needle carries lubricant through the hollow tip and deposits it directly at the jewel sink. The mechanism meters each charge as the top button is pressed down, releasing the drop only when positioned.

The reservoir tube

The clear body holds the reserve supply away from bench dust and open air. You see the remaining level through the barrel, which fills through the top opening and feeds downward toward the dispensing tip.

Grip and balance

The barrel has a knurled section where your fingers rest to guide the tip over train jewels and balance caps. It sits upright between uses, balanced like a standard pen oiler across the index finger.

Servicing the tip

The dispensing point clears with pith wood or a solvent rinse if dried oil gathers around the aperture. Keep the protective cap in place whenever the tool rests on the rack to shield the needle.

Oilers, cups and how much goes on

Why oilers come in graded sizes, what an oil cup with a lid is for, why the oil is picked up from the cup and not from the bottle, how a jewel takes a drop, and how oilers are cleaned between grades.
