EF0015 Extra Fine Diamantine Powder Tool

We supply this extra fine diamantine abrasive under reference 6807 for final polishing at the bench. A tiny amount mixed with watch oil creates the paste needed to finish pivots, balance staffs, and steel arbor faces. It cuts slowly and leaves a mirror surface.

Grain size

This grade carries an extra fine grit for final movement work. It removes faint machining lines without altering the true profile of a steel pivot or arbor when worked against a flat lap.

Mixing paste

Mix a small pinch with clean watch oil on an agate slab or glass plate. Work the powder until the abrasive spreads evenly throughout the oil carrier before bringing it to the component.

Lap materials

Use this abrasive with boxwood slips, zinc blocks, or cast iron laps. The soft metal or wood charges with the grain while the flat face maintains the square shoulders of the steel work.

Bench cleanup

Wipe all paste from the steel parts and carrier tools before assembly. Any residue left behind will act as a cutting compound once the movement runs.
