What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

This is our 1.6 mm screwdriver, dressed with a purple ring on the shank so you know the size before lifting it. The blade seats straight into bridge and balance screws. An index finger rests on the top head while the thumb and forefinger turn the knurled barrel below.

Blade profile

We grind the 1.6 mm flat blade with parallel flanks to meet the screw slot walls square on. A straight face grips across the full width rather than riding up on the burr.

Color ring

A purple band sits near the top of the body. You spot the 1.6 mm driver in a carousel or on the mat without measuring the flat tip each time.

Swivel head

The top head spins loose on its post. Your finger presses downward to keep the blade home in the screw slot, and the shank turns beneath without dragging across skin.

Blade replacement

A side grub screw locks the steel shank in place. When a tip dulls or chips on a stubborn thread, loosen the screw, slide the blade out, and seat a fresh one.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
