Setting a hand square takes a face that bears on the pipe and stays clear of the pinion. We turn this stake for hand setting tools to seat pipes at 1.70 mm. The grey body identifies the bore size quickly when you reach across the rack.
Stake face profile
The bore is turned to clear the central arbor while the flat rim bears against the hand boss. This puts downward pressure on the pipe rather than driving the arbor into the jewel below.
Grey identification band
The body carries grey coloring to mark the 1.70 mm size on your rack. When several stakes sit loose on the bench mat, the tint tells you the diameter without checking it against a gauge.
Fitting in the runner
The shank slides directly into the hand setting press runner. It locks into line with the movement holder so the face meets the dial plane flat and drives straight down without tilting the hand.
Replacing a worn tip
Stakes collect brass dust and can wear at the rim after long use on the bench. You release the worn piece from the tool runner and press this replacement stake home to restore a clean face.
