What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

We turn the body of this 0.60 mm screwdriver from anodised aluminium to keep the tool light between your fingers. The conical blade is Declafor 1015 alloy, which does not take on magnetism while you work around the balance or escapement. At the top, a self-lubricating POM synthetic head turns freely beneath the index finger.

Conical Declafor blade

We grind the 0.60 mm tip from Declafor 1015 alloy. The non-magnetic composition lets you set bridge screws near the hairspring without drawing delicate components toward the blade.

Anodised aluminium body

The aluminium barrel is knurled along the grip area to give steady purchase during delicate turns. The anodised surface resists bench oils and stays clean through long assemblies.

Self-lubricating POM head

The plain swivel head is turned from POM synthetic material. It rotates without added grease, so the cap runs smooth against your fingertip while the driver turns.

Replacing a worn blade

A set screw in the ferrule holds the Declafor blade in place. Back out the screw to release a worn tip, seat a fresh one true in the bore, and tighten it down flat.

Reading a catalogue number

What the parts of a Bergeon reference number mean, why the number is how a tool is asked for, how a suffix marks a size or a variant of the same family, and how to find the spare blade for a handle you already own.

Choosing a blade width

Why a screwdriver is chosen by the width of its blade rather than by its name, what happens to a screw head when the blade is a step too narrow, how the blades are stepped through the range, and how a worn blade is dressed or swapped.
