Spring bar tips wear and burr with continuous bench work. We cut this replacement fine fork in stainless steel with a 1 mm span across the prongs. It threads directly into the body of the spring bar tool when the old tip gives out.
The fork profile
The fork opens to 1 mm across the inner notch. It catches the shoulder or flange of a standard spring bar inside tight metal bracelet end links or narrow leather cutouts.
Stainless steel stock
We turn and mill the piece from solid stainless steel. The metal keeps its profile under steady compression and resists the usual shop humidity at the bench.
Threaded shank
The rear shank carries fine threads that seat true into the tool handle. When a prong chips or rounds over, unscrew the spent piece and run this one down finger-tight.
Tip maintenance
Inspect the fork faces periodically under a loupe. Clean away old strap grease and debris so the prongs seat directly against the shoulder of the spring bar.
