We turn this replacement tip from brass to fit the 7404 hand setting tool. When pressing hands onto their pivots, brass provides a rigid working face that seats collars square without galling steel parts. Keep spares at the bench for when a working face picks up grit or wears out of true.
Turned brass face
We shape the end from solid brass rather than synthetic stock. The metal holds its face under direct downward pressure, giving you firm feedback through the tool body when seating hour and minute hands onto their posts.
Fit for 7404
The shank is sized to seat into our 7404 hand setting tool. It slides directly into the tool holder, aligning with the central bore so downward force travels straight along the axis of the hand pipe.
Replacing a worn tip
A tip with a burred or deformed face must be swapped out before it marks a hand boss. Loosen the holder, draw the old tip out, and seat this replacement firmly against the internal shoulder.
Bench maintenance
Keep the brass face clear of oil and metal filings. Dress the flat lightly on fine abrasive paper if the edge rolls, or replace it entirely when the central opening loses its true profile.
