| What it is | A tool in its own right |
| Bench job | Fitting hands |
We turn the body of the 7404-1 hand setting tool from metal and fit it with synthetic ends for pressing hands home. Each end carries a distinct bore size to match common post diameters. You hold it upright between thumb and forefinger, feeling the pipe seat onto the arbor before you apply downward pressure.
Double synthetic tips
Each end holds a synthetic tip turned flat with a central bore. One side measures 0.50 mm and the opposite end measures 1.00 mm to clear central pivots while you push the hand pipe home.
Knurled body
The barrel carries deep knurling along its midsection. It gives your fingers purchase when aligning the tip squarely over the hand boss, preventing the tool from rotating in your grip as you bear down.
Perpendicular drive
You hold the tool vertical to the dial face so the synthetic surface meets the hand boss flat. The central hole accepts the pinion height while the surrounding shoulder seats the pipe squarely onto the arbor.
Tip replacement
The tips press into the metal handle ends. When a bore wears out of round or the contact face takes up brass filings from old work, you pull the worn piece and press in a fresh one.
