| What it is | A tool in its own right |
| Bench job | Fitting hands |
Setting hands over a quartz movement requires straight downward pressure without tilting the pipe on the post. We turn the handle of tool 7404-3 with knurling along the grip and fit synthetic tips to both ends. You steady the body between thumb and forefinger, align the bore with the arbor, and press squarely.
Synthetic tip profile
Each end holds a synthetic tip shaped to contact the hand boss rather than the dial surface. The material gives slightly under thumb pressure so the metal pipe receives the force across its face.
Knurled barrel grip
We cut clean knurling into the middle of the barrel. It gives your fingertips purchase when sighting down the arbor, keeping the shaft vertical as you bring the tip down over the post.
Dual working ends
The tool carries two distinct tip sizes on one body. You turn the barrel end for end at the bench as you move from setting the hour hand to pressing the minute hand.
Care at the bench
Keep the synthetic faces free of brass filings and oil film before bringing them down over a finished dial. When a tip face burrs or splits from use, press it out and seat a fresh insert.
