Bench jobChanging a strap or bracelet

This spare 1 mm fork threads into the handle of our 6767 spring bar tool when the working edge wears down. We turn it from stainless steel with a narrow notch to seat against the shoulder of a spring bar. Keep a fresh tip at the bench for tight end links.

The 1 mm fork profile

We mill the opening down to 1 mm across the tines. That width fits into the narrow access slots cut into modern solid end links, where a wider shovel tip will bind against the steel.

Stainless steel stock

We turn the entire tip from stainless steel. It resists workshop moisture and holds its ground notch without peeling, flaking, or leaving loose plating dust behind in the lug recess.

Threaded shank fit

The threaded end screws directly into the collet of any tool handle from the 6767 family. Finger pressure against the knurled barrel seats it true without needing pliers on the tines.

Replacing a worn tip

Forks round off over time through repeated contact with hard spring bar flanges. When the tines lose their bite, unscrew the spent point and seat this replacement to restore a clean purchase.

Changing a strap at the lugs

The order of work when a strap or bracelet comes off: which end of the spring bar tool does what, the difference between a fork end and a pin end, drilled lugs against closed lugs, and why the bracelet is held rather than gripped.
