What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobWorking on the movement

We shape the tip of this oiler to pick up a measurable drop of oil and deposit it cleanly into the jewel sink. The green handle marks its size at a glance on the bench. You touch the lubricant to the pivot without dragging the tip across the brass.

Shaped spatula tip

We flatten and hollow the metal tip so surface tension holds the oil drop until you touch the jewel. It releases cleanly on contact. You do not force lubricant into the setting.

Green color coding

The colored plastic body lets you identify the tip size instantly among your other oilers. It keeps you from dipping the wrong tool into your oil cup during assembly.

Handle balance

The light shank rests between your thumb and index finger without wobble. That steady hold helps when you guide a heavy oil toward setting cap jewels or barrel arbors.

Keeping it clean

Clean the tip in pith wood or Rodico between dips to clear old residue. Storing it under a cover keeps bench dust out of your oil reserves.

Oilers, cups and how much goes on

Why oilers come in graded sizes, what an oil cup with a lid is for, why the oil is picked up from the cup and not from the bottle, how a jewel takes a drop, and how oilers are cleaned between grades.
