Fitting an acrylic crystal requires straight downward pressure across the perimeter of the bezel. We cut the 5500 tool to drive unbreakable crystals into place, whether the plastic carries an internal tension ring or sits bare. Keep mineral glass and sapphire away from this press.
Setting unbreakable crystals
We machined this press specifically for plastic crystals. The action applies the steady vertical force required to compress the profile slightly and drive the lip over the case rim without binding.
Tension ring work
The tool accepts crystals fitted with internal tension rings as well as plain acrylic domes. The mechanical stroke seats the armed ring flat into its rebate without cocking the crystal sideways.
Exclusion of glass
Do not use this assembly for mineral or sapphire crystals. Hard glass will not yield under this profile, and attempting to press it here risks shearing the gasket or fracturing the pane.
Bare tool delivery
We supply the 5500 tool on its own, without accessories or dies. Mount your chosen stakes and lower supports directly to the frame before setting up the case on your bench mat.

Opening a stubborn case back
Snap backs against screw backs against monobloc cases, how a case key and its dies engage a fluted rim, why the case is held in a holder rather than in the hand, and what to do when the back has been opened badly before.
