What it isA tool in its own right
Bench jobCleaning and finishing

We turn the body of catalogue number 2834 from bakelite to hold a brass wire core. The pencil form gives direct control over the contact area on case parts, wheel teeth, and decorative trims. As the brass bristles wear down during cleaning, the wire strand feeds forward through the chuck.

Bakelite pencil body

The round bakelite handle sits between the fingers like a drafting pencil. The material resists common workshop solvents and gives a firm grip while working across uneven metal surfaces.

Brass wire bundle

We bundle fine brass wires into a dense core. The softer metal cleans oxide, dried oil, and bench debris off watch cases and movement wheels without cutting into the base metal underneath.

Screw advance mechanism

Twisting the rear ferrule feeds fresh wire through the nose of the holder. You control the length of exposed bristle, keeping it short for stiffer scouring or longer for light dusting.

Replacing the bristle core

When the brass wire wears down to the chuck, the entire core unscrews from the body. A fresh brass bristle insert drops into the bakelite barrel so the tool stays on your bench.

Cleaning putty and what it lifts, why solvents are kept away from some surfaces, the point of a bench mat and a tray with a lip, cloths and brushes, and how tools are put away so the next job starts on a clear board.
