Bench jobCleaning and finishing

Putty belongs on every watch bench for dry cleaning jobs where liquid solvents are impractical. We supply this single bar of dry putty under catalogue number 6033-1. It picks up debris, absorbs stray lubricant from train pivots, and takes smudges off train wheels without leaving a residue behind.

Dry compound mass

The pliable compound lifts specks of dust, dried oil crusts, and loose metal filings off movement plates. It grips debris upon contact, holding particles inside the mass rather than smearing them across ground bridges or balance cocks.

Oil removal action

Pivots, cap jewels, and pinions often carry small smears of old or excess lubricant. Pressing a shaped point of the mass against the jewel hole draws out the fluid without calling for a complete movement wash.

Shaping and kneading

The piece tears easily and rolls between your fingers to form fine points or wedges. When a contact surface gathers visible dirt, fold the putty over itself and knead fresh material out to the working tip.

Bench storage

Keep the bar wrapped or covered on the bench when not in use to keep room dust out of the material. As the compound saturates with grease and debris over time, discard the piece and tear off fresh putty.

Cleaning putty and what it lifts, why solvents are kept away from some surfaces, the point of a bench mat and a tray with a lip, cloths and brushes, and how tools are put away so the next job starts on a clear board.
