Bench jobCleaning and finishing

A fresh dab of putty sits on every bench we supply. We prepare this dry compound to take up finger marks, oil smears, and loose filings without leaving a wet film behind. Break off a small piece, shape it between your fingers, and press lightly against the surface.

Dry compound

The putty takes up grease, stray oil, and fingerprints on contact. It works dry, so you do not leave solvent residue across bridges, dial plates, or clock hands during final assembly.

Taking up filings

Small iron particles cling to magnets and coils during uncasing. Pressing a clean edge of putty against the part gathers the filings and lifts broken pivot fragments out of jewel holes.

Working the piece

Tear off what you need for the task at hand. Knead the material between your fingers to expose a fresh surface once the working face gathers grease or debris from the plates.

Bench storage

Keep the compound wrapped when it is not in your hand. Exposure to bench dust dries out the working surface, so we advise keeping the stick enclosed between service steps.
