We supply our 6436 sticks for direct contact cleaning on movement plates, jewels, and small steel components. The polystyrene material yields under pressure rather than cutting into metal surfaces. Watchmakers shape the ends with a bench knife to fit specific recesses, pinions, and balance cocks.
Polystyrene body material
The material yields under pressure when worked into jewel holes, gear teeth, and bridge recesses. It collects dried oil film and dust without leaving behind fibrous debris across the movement.
Shaping the tip
You cut and dress the working end with a sharp bench knife to suit the task. Pare the tip down to a fine wedge for pinions or leave it flat for plate surfaces.
Pivots and jewels
The end accepts pegging action directly against dried lubricant. Push the dressed point into the jewel cup, rotate it between your fingers, and pare away the soiled material before the next pass.
Handling at the bench
The rigid body gives you positive control when working under the loupe. It sits in the hand like a traditional pegwood stick while behaving consistently from end to end.
